The 2026 Grow It Yourself Outdoor Grow Academy is more than a class - it’s a comprehensive, hands-on, season-long learning experience that guides you from planting to harvest. At Grow It Yourself, your success is our priority. We’ll be with you every step of the way, providing expert guidance and support throughout the entire growing season.


Let’s be honest: Western New York isn’t an ideal climate for outdoor cannabis cultivation. That’s exactly why this program is designed to set you up for success. Each student will have access to up to three carefully selected plants, featuring genetics proven to thrive in our local conditions. These fast-finishing, disease-resistant strains deliver exceptional quality without compromise.


Each plant is provided in a one-gallon pot, fully hardened off and ready for transplanting upon pickup. Plants are available at $25 each, with three strains to choose from. Enroll early, and your first plant is included at no cost.


At Grow It Yourself, we specialize in organic living soil practices. This means using only high-quality organic amendments, natural pest management strategies, and zero synthetic chemicals. Growing your own ensures you know exactly what goes into the product you consume - something we believe should never be left to chance. Even better, the principles of organic living soil cultivation are transferable - you’ll be able to apply what you’ve learned to growing fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers in our regional climate.



What is the class schedule?

Classes are held rain or shine. In the event of extreme weather (such as thunderstorms or high winds), sessions may be rescheduled to Sunday or the next Saturday if necessary. Canopies will be provided for light rain.

  • Saturday, May 16 – Zoom meet-and-greet; site selection and equipment overview

  • Saturday, May 23 – Build and fill raised beds; explore alternative growing methods (in-ground and container growing)

  • Saturday, May 30 – Plant distribution; transplanting techniques; introduction to natural pest control

  • Saturday, June 27 – Pest scouting and management; defoliation, training, and trellising techniques

  • Saturday, July 25 – Pest monitoring; preparing for the flowering phase; soil feeding strategies

  • Saturday, August 29 – Continued pest management; soil feeding; advanced pruning, training, and trellising

  • Saturday, September 26 – Harvesting, drying, and curing techniques

  • Saturday, October 24 – End-of-season harvest celebration; share your results, reflect, and connect with fellow growers



What Can You Expect from the Academy?

  • Students can expect a hands-on, season-long learning experience led by an instructor with over 14 years of experience in soil science and cultivating cannabis and a wide variety of plants in Western New York.


  • Each student receives one free plant, with the option to purchase up to two additional plants for $25 each. All genetics are carefully selected for proven performance and early finishing in Western New York’s climate. Available strains include:


  • Snow-G (hybrid; similar to OG Kush/Sour Diesel)

  • Humboldt Afghani (Afghani indica)

  • Snowday (sativa-leaning hybrid)


  • Plants will come in 1 gallon pots, hardened off and ready to transplant immediately


  • Students will also receive two complimentary Zoom sessions during the season for personalized support, troubleshooting, and guidance specific to their grow.


  • As an added benefit, students receive 20% off all Grow It Yourself services for the remainder of 2026, including online or in-person consultations, soil testing and analysis, and additional classes.


  • You’ll also gain lifetime access to the GIY Cultivation Chronicles, a resource hub packed with grow guides, videos, product reviews, genetic insights, and the latest cultivation research.
